The Canberra office has a fantastic opportunity for a Solicitor to join our Mergers & Acquisitions group.
Why work with us?
As a leading international law firm headquartered in Asia and recognised as one of the world’s most innovative law firms, King & Wood Mallesons offers a different perspective to commercial thinking and the client experience. With access to a global platform, a team of over 2000 lawyers in 27 locations around the world, we work with clients to help them understand local challenges, navigate through regional complexity, and to find commercial solutions that deliver a competitive advantage for our clients.
What sets us apart?
KWM Canberra is not your average law firm. We are Canberra’s first law firm (1927) and are among the three largest commercial law firms in the ACT. We are strongly connected to the national firm, playing a leadership role in the national government strategy and managing substantial matters for ASX 50 clients.
Our lawyers have exposure to significant matters for both Commonwealth clients and major corporates; this mix of government and major corporate work is unique in the Canberra market. The office has strong ties to the local community particularly in supporting the ACT innovation ecosystem and our lawyers have the opportunity to pursue new areas of law of interest to them; including space law, blockchain applications and smart contracting.
About the role
We are looking for a mid-level experienced solicitor to join our M&A group, working primarily with two partners whose practices involve a mix of corporate and transactional advisory work (including major procurements and projects) and financial services regulatory work advising financial services industry participants on innovative investment products; for a broad range of Commonwealth government and private clients.
About the team
The team has strong leadership from Partners from across the M&A group who work together to expose you to good, challenging work. Whilst working in a friendly and encouraging environment, you will have access to supportive and creative mentoring from senior lawyers, partners, and other legal experts (across different locations and practice areas), deepening your own legal expertise. However, you will be expected to be a “self-starter”, proactively driving forward matters with an appropriate level of autonomy.
The Canberra office has a unique culture that is centred on caring for each other and ensuring we provide people with the best development and professional opportunities. You will have an opportunity to participate in networking, social and sporting activities across the office, and support the community via our Community Impact volunteer and pro-bono initiatives.
What would you bring to the team?
You will have first rate written and oral communication skills, ability to develop strong drafting and legal analysis skills, as well as an ability to get across complex areas of law quickly. But what’s most important to us is that you have a passion for commercial law and serving clients. You will also have a strong interest in, and understanding of, industry sectors in which we operate.
You will be self-aware, positive and have the ability to work well with others; being able to collaborate and work in a team is critical to success at KWM. In this ever changing legal and commercial landscape, you will also thrive in a culture that embraces change.
All of our lawyers, regardless of their level have direct exposure to clients. You will be the centre of information for our clients and transform the experience by truly engaging in and fostering those relationships to deliver relevant, prompt and commercially astute advice. We want people who build a culture of commitment to achieve the best results for our clients and our people by being innovative and being experts in their field.
