Our Canberra Dispute Resolution team are currently recruiting a senior Solicitor / junior Senior Associate candidate(approximately 3 to 5 years PQE) to work with Rebekha Pattison.
Rebekha’s practice includes administrative law (both merits and judicial review), regulatory investigations and advisory work (particularly in the telecommunications and utilities sector) and general litigation (focused on, but not exclusively for, the Commonwealth government). The mix of work is unique in the Canberra market, with very little high volume administrative law work.
The team is very close knit and has strong leadership from senior lawyers across the group who work together to expose you to good, challenging work. You will be given as much autonomy, and carriage of matters, as you are keen to take on. We are strongly connected to the national firm, playing a leadership role in the national government strategy and working across matters with our interstate colleagues. Our lawyers get exposure to national matters, and help our clients deliver on their strategic priorities.
The Dispute Resolution practice is interesting and varied, we specialise in a mix of public law (predominantly litigation, but some advisory), commercial litigation, regulatory matters, and privacy and information security . Our key clients include a number of large Commonwealth Government departments, and corporates. If you have a keen interest in investigating and resolving disputes and providing advice on risk and the avoidance of disputes, we would like to welcome you into the team.
You will have
We are looking for someone who is a “self-starter”, proactively driving forward matters with an appropriate level of autonomy. Ideally you have some experience in solicitor advocacy, or a willingness to try! We are also seeking someone who is motivated to be a leader in the team and to be involved in building and maintaining client relationships.
First rate written and oral communication skills, strong drafting experience, top notch legal analysis and an ability to get across complex areas of law quickly, but what’s most important to us is that you have a passion for public and commercial law and providing excellent service to clients. You will also have a strong interest in the industry sectors in which we operate – in particular working for the Commonwealth government.
You will be self-aware, positive and have the ability to work well with others; being able to collaborate and work in a team is critical to success at KWM. You will need to be able to take direction from more senior members of the team on larger matters, as well as delegate work and run a team on those matters you have carriage of. In this ever changing legal and commercial landscape, you will also thrive in a culture that embraces change.
Having dispute experience gained in a similar environment (whether inhouse at a government department or in private practice) is desirable. Experience gained within the federal jurisdiction is also preferable as you will need an understanding of the operational processes of the Federal Courts and Tribunals. Experience from other jurisdictions is also valued.
Have an existing Security clearance (or have the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance)
Please note, this role requires Australian citizenship due to the security clearance obligation.
